Amber Smith

When asked what first inspired her to become a stylist, Amber Smith, lead stylist and owner of Pearl Salon, closes her eyes and smiles, “the smell of my mother’s Aveda products—they were a precious treasure, and when she let me use them—it felt like a calling.”  So for Amber, whose life had taken her from the New Braunfels area to sunny California and back again, it was quite serendipitous when Aveda opened their Institute in San Antonio, so near the town she called home.  While training there, Amber heard about “this amazing salon where George Strait got his hair done.”  Outshining others to secure a sought-after apprenticeship studying under Kim McCarthy of Me Salon fame, Amber went on to work with Kim for several years after completing her training.

Hearing the call of a greater challenge, Amber struck out on her own in 2011, first choosing to rent space in another salon while she added business acumen to her long list of learned skills.  But by early 2012, Amber says she “needed more responsibility and desired the freedom to craft an environment that inspired—fresh flowers, candles, beautiful hardwoods and creamy white luxury.  The kind of place my clients could escape in; the kind of place I could create in.” So Pearl Salon, named for Amber’s perfect Pekingese puppy Pearl, was born.  Situated in the heart of Boerne, just Northwest of San Antonio, Pearl offers all of the posh splendor of an uptown salon amidst the warmth and comfort of a downhome boutique.

Amber has continued her education, traveling regularly to New York, Los Angeles, Austin and Dallas to keep up with the latest trends.  She excels in all things color as a Goldwell color specialist, and loves every bit of it—cutting, coloring, foiling, painting, extensions, and men’s cuts.  She is hair extension certified as well as Keratin Complex certified.

Amber is devoted to her craft, and while she feels much satisfaction in owning her own salon, it is meeting the needs of her clients that gives her the greatest fulfillment.
